You may not know the men, but you definitely know the locations.
Burnside, the crème de la crème of modern DIY skate spots the world over. This video is a story about the Monk, Red and the Grindline crew who are responsible for the gnarliest slabs of concrete across the US and Europe.
From humble beginnings of a curb and two sketchy bits of transition under Burnside bridge, to the magnitude of the DIY/Concrete revolution which has swept the world - Mark Hubbard and Red were at the forefront.
It's something a little different from Thrasher Magazine, and by that I mean it's not some corpo contrived bullshit that is stacked with paid promo. It's a eulogy and a testament to one of the most influential skateboarders to ever grace the earth and one who might not have been perfect, but certainly changed the direction of core skateboarding forever. It's a story with ups, downs, struggle and ultimately triumph.
As someone commented in the video, "they didn't just build skateparks, they built second homes for more of us than they'd ever know". And if that doesn't strike a cord with you and make you wanna watch it - go and focus your board and never try again because you're doing it for the wrong reasons.
