Things to bear in mind when selecting what size deck to buy.

-

Determining what width, length & shape board you'll be wanting will depend on what kind of skating you're looking to get in to. For example, smaller boards are easier to flip (7.75" - 8.25") whereas wider decks (8.375" +) with a larger surface area are preferred for ramp skating.

-

Conditional on how much you skate you'll change your board anywhere from a few times a month to a few times a year, This is obviously a good opportunity to try something slightly different (Size, Brand or Shape) to alter depending on your preference. I personally find i get used to minor changes in size or shape after a few skates but i suppose that all depends on how fussy you are, you may find yourself gravitating to the same brands and sizes as you don't want interrupt your abilities.

Shoe size can also be a deciding factor, for instance if you have size 5 feet you will struggle to control a deck much bigger than 7.75 - 8 and on the flip side a size 12 will be more suited for a larger deck. See below a rough idea of where you want to be looking at scale wise when choosing a size.
